She was a singer, performer and designer and broke barriers in the industry of music. She was both traditional and modern, she was a Mexican American who brought two worlds in a distinctive method. Her untimely death splintered her rise in popularity, and as often happens the moment a brilliant, warm star dies far too young has left many mourning her unrealized potential. In the years since, her admirers are working even harder to never forget the achievements she has achieved. Her tragic death in a shooting provoked a response from the Latino community that was similar with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena's music, an artist who was hugely popular in Latino communities across North America touched people young and old. Selena, a sexy and glamorous stage performer, who was often referred to as Latina Madonna, was also a model offstage. She participated in anti-drug initiatives.
